A weekend of trailrunning at the Zugspitze mountain with plenty of surprises!
Germany’s Florian Reichert (Salomon Running Team) caused a storm of enthusiasm at the 9th SALOMON Zugspitz Ultratrail powered by LEDLENSER as he claimed victory in his first attempt at the race. The man from the town of Göttingen in Lower Saxony claimed top spot on the 63.5-kilometre distance in a time of 6 hours 4 minutes and 59 seconds ahead of last year’s Ultratrail winner, Tofol Castanyer from Spain (Salomon Running Team), who crossed the line in 6:10:54 hours. Dylan Bowman (Red Bull), one of the favourites going into the race, faded towards the end and had to settle for fourth place in 6:14:40 hours behind Poland’s Marcin Swierc (6:13:07 hours). In the women’s race victory went the Polish runner Magda Laczak (7:29:29 hours, Salomon Running Team). In only her second outing at the ZUT, former biathlon star Laura Dahlmeier won the 38.7-kilometre Basetrail XL to huge cheers from her home crowd.
